Messages To Put On Going Away Card

UD NECFI 7: The elderly.

Well, at the repeated request of the public to reduce work content in the written test, there goes one.
  • The theme: The elderly and the changes it causes aging (Item 4 of the teaching unit, if you work as expected, not included in the written test).
  • What should I do? Find information about changes that aging occurs at the biological (or physical), cognitive ability, and psychosocial level. The information must be sought in at least two sites (as usual, we must provide references). See that the information is complete and covers the most important not interested in delving into reams of detail. Let's find a balance between quantity and quality.
  • What we do with that information? The select and summarize to translate it into a mural-puzzle.
  • That what is a mural-puzzle? A mural like the one we usually do on cardboard and place where we distribute information, but in the form of cards of the same color and approximate size (if they can be laminated better) and velcro. Then we remove the information and we can complete the puzzle to see what we have assimilated some of the content. When acabéis to read the full entry, the rest of clarification.
  • "Grouping? Couples.
  • Delivery "? Already negotiated according to the progress of work and the rest of the theory of UD, but in principle it would be yours for the day 17 (with completion of puzzle included) or by 20 (to verify that the work has served more than just to remove content of the written test on 20, and who does not fulfill its part does not matter is withdrawn).
  • Questions, complaints and other things below.

Now you can start!

NECFI. UD 7: The elderly.

Good morning everyone and happy Friday. Today we will begin the UD 7. To enter unit, as usual, we will perform a series of activities chat and find information that help us to put the unit in context and begin teaching the theory, although some of the issues which we have tried to talk the the first teaching units.
The elderly are a group that are increasing daily in number due to the current social circumstances, in fact, in January 2010 the United Nations published the report Ageing Population 2009 . The content of this report underscore four major findings:
  1. Aging population is unprecedented. The aging population with increasing proportion of seniors (ie those aged 60 years or more), is accompanied by reductions in the proportion of children (persons under 15 years) and a decrease in the proportion of people of working age (15 to 59). Globally, the number of seniors is expected to exceed the number of children for the first time in 2045.
  2. aging population is widespread, affecting nearly every country in the world. The result of the aging of the population, mainly by reducing fertility, has become virtually universal.
  3. aging population is profound, having major implications for all facets of human life. In the economic field, the aging population will impact on economic growth, savings, investment, consumption, labor markets, pensions, taxes .......... In the social sphere, population aging influences family composition and living, the demand for housing, epidemiology or health services needs.
  4. The aging of the population is permanent. Since 1950, the proportion of older people has increased steadily from 8% in 1950 to 11% in 2009 and is expected to reach 22% in 2050.
And here comes the person TASS in action. These circumstances make the elderly are the group with which statistics are more likely to work in the future, both institutional and home support or any other service.

then also remember the causes of aging (UD 1), we gossip "consequences of an aging population", which are analyzed and shown to happen in the future if no social circumstances change, and an article (not an integer, but most) of Carmen Morán published in El Pais that addresses an important issue: abuse in older people is a bit long, but we will be reading by paragraphs and Comnet simultaneously.

When the elderly are a nuisance

The Elder abuse is the latest discovery in family violence, and in a society like today where it is rarely the cause that does not have a birthday, it was not until 2006 that a date was proclaimed on 15 June as World Day for awareness against abuse of elders.

The difficulty in detecting these aggressive behaviors, or negligent, to doubt the experts about the accuracy of the incidence of abuse, that the world is around 3%. Taking into account what the elders answered, Spain can speak of some 60,000 victims. But experts doubt always shade into the same direction: there is more than what you see and what the protocols detected. And in this abundance of caregivers' responses, 4.6% have had to recognize that the most abusive behavior.

Financial abuse is the most frequent but not paying much attention. "The attacker uses the victim's money without their consent, forced him to change his will, to be renamed the house". The profile of the aggressor, in these cases is that of a person's pension depends grandfather. Paradoxically, the victim does not rebel, because he knows that to do so, the attacker will fall in some distress.

Who are these offenders that both arouse in their victims feeling? The couple and their children. Men and women half by half. Six out of ten offenders are more than 64 years and four in ten have a physical problem. More than half under stress.

neglect and psychological abuse are as common as financial abuse. Under neglect certain behaviors are framed as providing inadequate doses of medication (up and down) or a wrong medication, deprived of basic needs (food, hygiene, heat, clothing climate, health care, etc.) or abandonment . Psychological abuse and is filed under actions of rejection, abuse, terror, isolation, yelling, insults, threats, are ignored or are deprived of affection.

are situations that anyone can detect in their environment, the problem is that these forms of aggression not identified as abuse, nor is it considered such contempt in its many variations of men towards their partners before they accurately define male violence.

"Old people do not recognize the abuse by taboo and because they see it, because their lives have been very tough and are used to some extent. Others feel guilty because they are their children and they, think, have well educated.'s Guilt is large. The what have I done to treat me well. "

are models of care to old age that determine some characteristics. For example, in Spain, grandparents are cared for mainly at home. So much so, that one of the classical threats in the section on psychological abuse, is the forced entry into a nursing home. Also in these centers there are situations of abuse to which, of course, among the professionals.

And that attention at home, typical of Mediterranean countries is complicating the situation of abuse, as they begin to detect the professionals. Because caring for an elderly man with serious problems of dependence is not simple, "families do not always have the emotional, intellectual, moral or economic," says María Teresa Bazo. And public support is not sufficient in such cases.

In situations like these, families often are overwhelmed and in an ambivalent situation that is home to love and hate in equal measure. "The family, who has spent years taking care of the elderly, feel affection for him is his father or mother, but also is the limit, has had to leave work, lost their freedom, friends, that's why, when elder dies, a feeling of guilt is great. is then recognized and regretted the shouting, pushing, poor responses, the fights. "

care of a child born also steal a part of life, work, going out with friends, customs. But the children give affection and care are limited, will decline as they grow. With the elderly is just the reverse. "What at first looks like an emergency, caring father, is to be dragging on for years, no one can see the end, and over the emotional relationship is lost when they are reduced the powers of the elderly. Before it was a person who did things, that interacted with the family, but over time is becoming a nuisance. " When the loss of freedom is unbearable, "the only way out is death. But then comes out of guilt because, while the penalty, he feels a sense of relief." They feel bad because they feel it would be the summary.

Tortosa Juan Muñoz, professor of psychology University of Granada, the last a book titled "My parents are abused? Pillars of hidden violence, which analyzes the mainstays of these attacks. He is convinced that abuse is increasing, that "many people who are suffering but remains hidden." "Caregivers feel pleasure at the beginning, more than what they get, but eventually it comes to conflicts of interests and motivations and needs of the elderly may become a millstone which cared for. This is where you start the spiral of violence ". Many caregivers are overwhelmed by circumstances and not all abusers, however, on many occasions between the aggressor and the victim is often a relationship codependency.

The elder abuse, such as children or women, occurs in the privacy of home, a drag that these attacks come to light and receive public condemnation knock on the door of politics. Between five and seven out of eight cases of abuse go undetected, according to a guide who has just released the Madrid City Council to prevent such conduct. "There are laws to protect minors, but not elderly, lack measures to protect them," Muñoz calls Tortosa.

After all this talk, I hope you have been interesting, assuming you have already touched the bell, we will make the viewing and commentary of two short videos videos section number (if the computer, Internet connection and other unforeseen permitting), and as an alternative, we can do in pairs to search for information, with the corresponding pooling on the changes that age has on the person at the physical (or biological), to psychosocial and cognitive level.

I hope you enjoy both the bridge as you have done in these last two hours on Friday.
