JIMMY WALES AND WIKIPEDIA
GEEK factor

Last week, the operator of the encyclopedia more great and famous in the world, had a hectic pace for Santiago, during which he was the keynote speaker of the Youth Leadership Seminar 2008 magazine "Sabado". The writer Alberto Fuguet met with him between meetings to talk about the wiki phenomenon.

BY ALBERTO Fuguet

get together the night before breakfast with Jimmy Wales, who came to Santiago to give several lectures and master classes, I decided to register to edit and contribute to the world's largest encyclopedia. What started as a desire to know more and learn "on the ground" gave way to a sort of wiki-addiction. I ended up deep in cyberspace, going from link to link, editing, editing, inventing any new "items." I had never contributed to Wikipedia and then a couple of "contributions", some linked to me or people I know, but also with words and information on the "Chilean trivia, I turned off my computer feeling slightly pleased, almost proud, as if had been all weekend preparing a presentation for my fellow seventh grade about dinosaurs.

Indeed, there is something intensely nerdy child in Wikipedia and that is, no doubt, the secret of his success. Of its overwhelming success and overwhelming of this "invention" that did not exist 7 years ago and now everyone thinks indispensable.

Wikipedia Those who do not know, maybe they should not continue reading this. Or at least, they should stop e go to www.wikipedia.org though, as I said after Jimmy himself, there are few who go directly to the site, the important thing is that when you have any questions and "Google" the answers are. From the neighbors who are The Simpsons the origin of Shyrah , through the main points of the former Minister Yasna Provoste. If one finds that information and then someone thought of that (one or more Wikipedia), its input-gratituito, anonymous, nerd-now will be "Public Info".

Jimmy Wales, of course, has its "entry." The one in English is the most comprehensive and controversial (not least because he himself has changed, something only the U.S. could become the subject and, as Wales himself, the rest of the world "is considered survival human ") but this is what your own encyclopedia about the founder says in English:

Jimmy Donal Wales, commonly called "Jimbo" Wales (born in Huntsville, August 7, 1966), is the co-founder of Wikipedia. Born in Huntsville, Alabama, United States, graduated from Auburn University and Alabama. Along with Larry Sanger, Wales founded Wikipedia, an encyclopedia based on wiki concept and model of free software.

Wales is currently chairman emeritus of the Wikimedia Foundation, 1 a non-profit foundation located in San Francisco. Wales has stated that it was influenced during his youth in the books of Ayn Rand. 2 While in University, owner and moderator of a mailing list called "Talk moderate Objectivist Philosophy" .3

Wales is not very high, it is rather bunting, and uses mandarin collar jackets, according to people on the network, has to do with his obsession with Keanu Reeves's character in The Matrix saga. Wales is not a millionaire but lives as if it were or, perhaps more effective, has everything you need and, for auction, you know what you need. Money has been, a self satisfied, not both. This phrase seems like a self-help is key to understanding the phenomenon Jimmy Wales and Wikipedia: Not everything is done for money. And that the Money does not buy everything, it's true. Money does not buy what he calls "cool."

Wikipedia is cool and, incidentally, is also its founder.
There are things money can not buy.

Part of his fortune comes from when I was a yuppie and speculated on the Stock Exchange, above all, for lectures and conferences. Wikipedia is a nonprofit foundation and that is what has made who he is: Wales has more than clear that not everything can be traded and if the information appeared alongside advertisements for automotive deodorants that are on the verge of bankruptcy , all the magic of this energy geek could wane. So now betting business other than business in the traditional sense, as a search engine that would make competition in Google, but to me this issue does not attract me too and I think it succeeds. It's going to go down in history with Wikipedia.

"This is me spinning a few days ago: How do you build an empire based on the remuneration or profit?

"People have wanted to participate. If the community wants it and also has the appropriate structures becomes feasible, which starts, mutate, expand. The most loyal people is the things that makes you free. They are, in essence, your friends, but for that we must all be in it. Many believe that everyone is only interested in money and greed, but perhaps they are talking about themselves. Wikipedia I've been led to believe much in humans, in their desire to connect, to do good, to follow rules and, in turn, using those same rules to create. The other thing that lacked, and perhaps was a mistake because I was and am still one of them is the geek factor.

- How?

"Those who make that Wikipedia is Wikipedia is that there are many, many men (almost 90 percent are men) who are aces in the network, but are somewhat socially awkward. They are young, intelligent and educated and they need throw your energy and enhance their creativity. They are geeks.

- Geeks?

"Yes, geeks.

According to Wikipedia, a geek is:

(pronounced "guik" IPA / gik /) is a person with a fascination for technology and computing. Described in some way as a lifestyle and a way of being. His goal is to make or use technology for fun and / or the recognition it brings, almost always by the sheer pleasure of it. A geek is characterized by living in the world of technology. The term "geek" in English is related only with the technology, unlike the use of the term geek in the English language, which has a broader meaning and the equivalent English word geek.

- If Wikipedia had a traditional model, that is, if he had hired people to write articles, do not work?

-I know, so I left and that was how I was wrong. Again, the geek factor was not considered or less the fun factor.

- Is Divet be a Wikipedia?

"Sure. So why do it and do it. All need to feel heroes. And every single person knows something, has an expertise, and that I can share.

- You were like those teenagers who read the Guinness book of records?

"He had a passion for lists. Guess: I say that in the next issue show up.

- Under the world's most famous geek?

"No," she laughs. Under the world's biggest Encyclopedia.

Wales, as a person who should talk about this many times a day, has its own talking points as if life were a presentation. I was with him over a day and realized that I was able to feel very comfortable as a centerpiece. Twelve hours of hard work, I attended a private dinner where, for at least hour and a half, sitting on a sofa, was the target of dozens upon dozens of questions where he devoted himself to answer without batting an eyelid, which left me between shocked and I do not know why, depressed.

- Why free factor is indeed a factor?

"Because you everywhere and you underpay you feel abused or exploited. Everything is transparent. Look, many people work best free if they can do what they want. On the other hand, however, how many people that is paid, even well, feel a knot in the stomach and end just can meet and run or work poorly.

- Is not exploited?

"We all feel part of something bigger. And everyone wants to be recognized, in one way or another: we believe in the amateurs or those who do not feel they just are what they are. We have doctors who write for the Muppets, lawyers who contribute to tourism or film. People are more than his job. This can contribute to both an amateur, as a student or a professional. Talent may be everywhere, but when that talent is not recognized or paid or taken into account two things happen: a lot of frustration or great contribution to the network.

Then I look, seriously:

"Imagine a world in which every person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge. That's what we're doing. Go
is good, I think. Go you have faith and trust.

Wales believes that man is essentially good and driven by the desire to build rather than destroy.

-The hypothesis is that the number of those who want to cause damage is small compared with that wants to do good. Consequently, what makes Wikipedia is to support those wanting to give, while the participants themselves block the destructive. See also internet population as immigrants and natives. "

"Explain.

"Most came to this world as adults as opposed to those born digital and always have been. This group, of course, is extremely young. There are all sorts of immigrants, such as real immigrants: some barely speak the language of their new country and others have become true natives. The Wikipedia, which collaborate and write and contribute to Wikipedia, for example, tend to be types of 25 years upwards, and if you think about it, although they appear native, when they were twelve, was just internet basis. Wikipedia does not have more than 7 years. Of course the internet years are like dogs: in 2003, for example, the network was another network, it was almost another world. Everything changes and mutates and grows exponentially. And one of the most loyal segments are those men, between 25 and 45 which, despite having more adults to come and internet, you'd think they grew up with it. When I was a kid, the symbol generation, from young to say, power-preteen child was the remote control. I know how to use and know its benefits. My father told me: go to change the channel, and I felt I was living on another planet. I understood early on that it was not my world and should live elsewhere.

-Planeta Wales.

"In the network you can build your planet or your office or do not know, garage for testing. You can build such a meeting and is not limited geographically.

"True, but what impresses me most is that you also choose your office mates, say.

"That is: your place, be it a blog, a site, a chat room, whatever, is a molded to your liking. Those people who chose. People with whom you feel comfortable

-What a pleasure. But do not feel that there is something profoundly unnatural about that. I say: man, for centuries, has had to grow and live in hostile environments.

"Only you could choose your friends and your partner and your children.

"Exactly. Now anyone can spend however much of his life in the company of friends.

- Do you feel bad?

- at all, but what is new. Some long-term effect will ...

I do not know what effects, but it is certainly something new. Before recess was associated with death, darkness, a place where one was buried. Today there are niches within niches within niches.

- Do not you think that may be another way to bury?

I do not think. Those fans of a rock band will eventually want to know what they say those who despise that group of rock. I always think it best to do what one likes or makes you feel good. What once was, say, the land of artists, a poet, now it's all: you may not get one, maybe nobody reads or understands you, but you know you're doing or participating in a collective. And in the search network connection of any kind. Can not explain that thousands of people to give labor, information, even excitement, to Wikipedia without the emotional factor.

- Is there life outside the network?

-A people like tick cyberspace like a different place, outside, in our world. I think that in 50 years is going to seem odd to speak well. Today we do not talk TELEPHONE space. When people talk by phone or a cell phone now, not that they are in another space, another world, are at it, but they are on the phone. Are talking and talking, of course, about things that happens in this world. The phone is not just a tool for people talking to people. Internet is, and departed as via written communication, now has images, movement, voice. Phones, in fact, may now have the same thing. The human being is human.

"It's human nature 101.

"Something like that. And the network can only look to the community. YouTube is not altering reality, is reflected. It's like when you saw
The Flintstones and The Jetsons : they were almost the same show, only changed the toys and inventions.

- Is not it a bit naive to believe in human goodness, a great project to articulate the idea of \u200b\u200brelying on the kindness of strangers?

"For a while this was the notion that many people had the Internet. And I think that notion among fearful and fatalistic had to do with the idea that a network could be anonymous. And somehow, it's true: it is easier to be anonymous on the net, but it is equally true that an anonymous life or, indeed, the life of someone who is hiding or fleeing is an extremely stressful life and where much of your energy has to be used in precisely maintain the anonymity. It is one thing to be anonymous or shy and do nothing wrong and another is to be an anonymous vandal. And, initially, some software could allow people in fact behave like beasts. People associate anonymous barbarian, but I do not necessarily imply the other thing. Some are, but it is the exception. As in life, most of the company meets and complies and supports and endorses the basic laws of coexistence. The good thing is the wiki system that controls those who are about yahoos, those who misbehave ... and those who control it are the same people who are interested in making a contribution.

- Today the possibility to exist, to have your voice, albeit an anonymous voice.

"Many people today in the Internet and the possibility to reach more, it helps to establish their identity. And what they do is, eventually, writing. About them and their feelings or things that interest them. And that kind of empowerment is what makes the vast majority of users care network, they are vandals and, in cases such as Wikipedia, behave.

"Everything is based on the written word as well, which is not a minor issue.

-parents can finally breathe and realize that it has not reached the end of civilization. Children read, write, navigate, Link. When I go to a school or university and applaud me standing like a rockstar for being the inventor of an encyclopedia I think "what's up". So, when I was a teenager, if the editor in chief of the Encyclopedia Britannica had gone to my Univera, only the guys would have attended more pimples. I received an idol, I think, a sign that civilization is not going to end or, in effect, is over. Jimmy Wales

then laughs and it shows that he is happy, happy, he feels comfortable.

"So, Wikipedia is cool

" It's cool, yeah. And geek

- Geeks are cool now?

"That's what you said, not me.

"The blog is not literature, is literary life"

INTERVIEW Alberto Fuguet, WRITER AND FILMMAKER

The author of "Jeers" about his relationship with new technologies.

by Ana Prieto

know if I'm not as good for storytelling, "says Chilean writer and filmmaker Alberto Fuguet. "I am interested in capturing a certain sensibility, share an ethical rather than aesthetic, and create characters that anyone can empathize with and ultimately feel together." In this way, Fuguet also works on real characters. Just published My body is a cell an "autobiography" of the Colombian writer Andres Caicedo, which took credit Fuguet "production and assembly" that will hit the shelves in Argentina in 2009.

maintains two blogs, but blogger is not considered ("to be, would have to spend more hours"), and they do not support comments or check the statistics. "There do not publish stories and poems and do not believe much in the interactivity they offer. The poems are not interactive beyond the basic sense of the word. I never chatted with Pizarnik, or I would have been required. Surely she interacted with people who said of his poems, but that's a private matter. What say you expect from a text posted, which is good, which is bad? That's like on TV. I understand that blogs can serve to read and share things with people who are far away, but that is not literature, is literary life. The interactivity of a text continues to read it, underline it, recommend it, lend it. In this it the Red beats the press. But the Red

loses out long texts.

As cliché great phrase I say that the Internet is much like life, where there are restrictions. As a matter, if you like anatomical one can not be more than three hours in the cinema. Television, in contrast, proposes a number of hours inconceivable, almost immoral. I'm seeing Dexter, season 3, and it's like to have seen it three or four or more films. In the novels Something similar occurs. Can they be so long? 2666 Bolaño seems a bit exaggerated, he himself would have wanted them to be short stories, linked, because the physical weight of the book and its price is no joke, like the time spent reading. But just as television found that he could do what the film is not, perhaps the Web still has something to discover.

Is exhausted literary forms?

My impression is that everything is invented, but I feel that I am now more fragmented, and I like it. Before anything nonlinear me dizzy. Network I've learned: the need for spaces. In the blog I write further down that side, and I am concerned that my books have internal air. Rather than creating something new, the Web can teach us that. Because ultimately, the literary world has always had to do with seduction and mystery.

Other arts have managed to reach high levels of abstraction What do you think, in this sense, the film?

I think the most impressive thing has happened with the film is HBO, is one of the moments historical, as when they invented the sound and color, which divided the audiovisual world in two, just for the management of time, talking. As the film has to last about two hours, you should be more like poetry: narrative moments, sensations, Asians do very well. The character development, it works best on television.

In our societies, so spectacularized, where do you draw the line between expression and exhibitionism?

The exhibitionism is not able to handle your anxiety, not being comfortable with your ego. I draw the line on good taste, simply.

The film and life

By Héctor Soto

If the compulsive passion for film involves some level of disagreement with the world Andres Caicedo then should be raised to the altars of the American cinephile as a saint and martyr. Many of the background to promote their causes are in the book just published Alberto Fuguet ( My body is a cell , Standard Edition, Santiago, 2008) from the wealth of material-diaries, writings and letters, an impressive amount Caicedo left behind to take his own life on March 4, 1977. Fuguet, who did a remarkable job in terms of insight, not said a word to those texts and simply arrange them in a sequence that describes the gradual descent into hell of the young Colombian.

Born in Cali in 1951, decided not to studying after school, in part because there were many projects that he felt called to do and partly because he sensed that his time was limited. Caicedo had much of a child prodigy, and reached to touch the sky with their hands when they encouraged a cinema club and wrote, with a determined sense of urgency and agony, film criticism between 19 and 25 years who had to die.

>

The problem is that everything else in his life was traumatic. Never got along well with his father and developed a relationship of great dependency on the mother. Wanted to write scripts for Hollywood not knowing English or have more contact and made a trip to the Together which turned predictably defeated. Stuttered and this factor, which hurt at school and dreams of cultural animator, surely pushed him into the world of drugs. Nor was given the right things at the sentimental, Caicedo was feeling increasingly cornered and accelerate their preferred outcome with 60 tablets of Seconal the same day he received the first copy of a novel he had written.

Read today's criticism Caicedo-Standard published in the late 90's the book Ojo al cine, which includes much of its production-is a fascinating experience. Maybe he never was a paradigm of rigor, but he wrote unforgettable pages about movies so emotionally devastated, as Vertigo, Hitchcock, as Lilith by Robert Rossen and Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid of Peckinpah, among others. If anything, they seem the most hardened moviegoers to the stewards of Stalinism and moralists have associated with focal screen or ideological smuggling is rampant corruption that tend to overestimate the impact of movies they watch. As well, but also wrong. To Caicedo critic should above all be able to remove by means of reason often deceptive magic of images of bad cinema. In the end, because I thought it might be toxic. Those fears were very of its time, when the concept of alienation contours acquired slightly less than demonic. Today such paranoia has fallen. But beauty is still the idea that a movie you can save or condemn.

A Caicedo film gave many of the brightest moments of his life. His problem was what came after the screening. This film does that beat.

Alberto Fuguet and new
stories around the web

Chilean writer and filmmaker, invites the International Literature Festival in Buenos Aires (Filber), analyzes the forms and expressions brought under blogs . "The text is strong, support is the middle," she believes. Silvina Friesen

For
Alberto Fuguet says that authors like today would Pessoa or Pavese blogs.
When in the late '70s came to Santiago de Chile, a city besieged by the terror of the Pinochet dictatorship, was 12 and could not say a word in English. That teenager grew up in California (USA) was misplaced. The book and film were a ground wire that allowed him to gradually integrate. Finding your place in the world. Alberto Fuguet, writer and filmmaker influential in many contemporary narrators for his opposition to the magical realism in his collection of stories McOndo, several authors, opted for real and urban literature, "one could say that both sides walk festivals.

just arrived the country to join the International Literature Festival in Buenos Aires (Filber), which begins tomorrow, where he will participate in a panel on Roberto Bolaño and another with the promising title of "shameless and plagiarism in the network." But soon, says the author of Overdose , Jeers and films my life, festivals are devoted to their recent
short 2 hours.

"I'm trying to bring the intimacy of the literature and audiovisual economic freedom," says Chilean writer. "I think you can, costing but something can be done. Does not seem right or fair that the film is in the hands of Pol-Ka or Paramount, or the state no less than art festivals like Rotterdam. I think there must be a way. And if it does not for long, making short films or documentaries or clips. For me, film is as important to write and the network can help me. Perhaps not finance, but at least to reach many people. And not only within the country. "

" In a text entitled The Blog of Disquiet, said that "in the stratosphere of blogging, people just want to be, do not count. Wants to show. " Why give this phenomenon exhibited among the writers who blog?

"What I meant is the" normal "people, not the writers 'professional', or, say, writers who have published books and, for example, have given interviews. My impression is that there are still few authors, bloggers. There are millions of people "normal" (or maybe not so normal) who write, are displayed, they confess, they are exposed. Sure, use the word, photos, images and music to exist, to be, not to be one more, to be someone important or someone better or someone else on the network. While there must be exceptions, I see many people telling in the traditional sense. Counting fictions. Do make a lot of confessions as St. Augustine or "life in progress" which is memorable as many times in the same level of everyday life. Really do not know writers who make their life a show, if there are singers or rock or even public figures or celebrities. Among all those people anonymous network, there will be writers who publish in a more traditional.

- What do you attribute this widespread need for a spectacle of life?
"Life is a movie. Everything is now show. But I repeat: do not all show in real life or on the network. There are people who see themselves as an art film or a low-budget documentary. Maybe everyone feels they want to be part of the network, the big stage, but not everyone believes that life is a nonsense program. I guess that post is displayed, exhibited, whether online or in bookstores, but another thing to show, brothel and make up a character. At least I think literature has to do with finding a way to express yourself better than you express yourself in life.

"So as they say that there are stories or anecdotes that can not be written, why anything goes in the net? Why a subject X believes that her diary may be of interest to another?

"Not everything is, of course, but online all they can be. And here I think is good to note that both the newspaper publishing industry as the entry permit only a few. In the network, not anything goes, but everything is done and it seems they are all. By failing to filter the network may be someone that has things that interest us, no doubt. But does this not happen in the real world or similar? And as in the real world, few that are popular. My impression is that these diaries are on the network that are less widely read than those hidden in a locked drawer. Then, in the whole network can be, but the network seems to life and, therefore, not everything you read, not everything works, not all accomplished their goal. The good news is that eventually it can happen. Perhaps Kafka's diaries and Andres Caicedo Pavese would now be unknown or losers in the network.
- What's left for the area of \u200b\u200bprivacy if everything is online?

-No everything is on the network. What's on the net is what people want is on the network. From an improved version of the subject or even a version of self-flagellation. In the network's all post, fragments, pieces. But the street is a lot. Although younger people to the distinction between private and public is less, in some way in the real world is too. But beware, not because someone appears nude or having sex or masturbated last night telling if it means revealing much. Reveals a part. There is still the distinction between intimate and public, and art or literature is for them to work in the private and the public take it without damaging it, without turning into something vulgar, exposed. Intimacy is more crowded show, show or, worse still, a circus. Mourn with grief for the cameras, is it intimate?

Although Chilean writer and filmmaker has two blogs (www.albertofuguet.blogspot.com and www.laspeliculasdemivida.blogspot.com ) said that he feels a blogger. At least one professional. In the short term is involved with two network projects: www.albertofuguet.cl , linking its two blogs, and www.cinepata.com , a distributor of digital cinema free for people to download films, short clips and other audiovisual projects.

"I have to jump blogs the press. When someone appears in the press, because it is releasing a book or on tour. And, secondly, to skip local. A post of mine appears throughout the world, especially in the English speaking world, "said Fuguet. "The truth is I do not use the blog to prove stories or to talk to potential readers. I suppose I could, but I'm not on the network to respond to posts or make new friends but simply to intervene to put things that interest me, to have, so to speak, my own environment and my own communications agency. And soon I will have my own film distribution company. "
Point
right on target, without hesitation, when you define what a plagiarism. "Plagiarism is trying to pass itself alien. Sure that happens much in the network rather than in real life. But the network is so common to appropriate, cite, link ... Plagiarism is not a very appropriate word for the network. Now that I'm just linking or appointment or shares is also considered a copyright, plagiarism and therefore does not become so necessary. In addition, those who do know it is very easy to understand whether something is or is not itself "raises Fuguet.

- Why said that "the blogosphere is not an art, and hopefully never will be?

- Did I say that? (Laughter.) I do not know, clearly it seems more healthy to be an open space there may be art, but also has everything. In the network should not ever feel that you must ask permission to enter. The grace is that you can find everything. He who seeks finds, say.

- who writes a blog generates work?

-Generates work, yes. I do not know if all that work brings to a book, but perhaps many of these posts they can operate. In my case, a part of autistic Notes was taken from my blog. Come to think of, I guess I tried my texts, but do not feel like because I do not use statistics or allow comments.

-seems to be a trend that is to publish books with texts and stories originally written in blogs. What is your opinion on this phenomenon?

"It's a fad and will pass. At the end it is a remix of the epistolary format. As with everything, there may be some very silly and notable books lights up. A text written from within, personal, or just a good text, can resist everything: be on the network, a blog, in a journal or supplement. The text is strong, the medium is the medium.

"You said Fernando Pessoa would be perfect now a blogger, what other poets and writers could fall within that category?

"Those who need to tell what they are doing. They need every so often leave evidence of feelings or things that happened. Also, as in the case of Pessoa, those who understand that changing the name, you can write otherwise. I'm not an expert in the world of poetry, but it strikes me that the network is a great place for them. Now I published a book called My body is a cell , a sort of autobiography of the Colombian writer Andres Caicedo, who was killed at age 25 in 1977. The mailing and sending letters to recipients almost unknown. Without doubt, Caicedo was a blogger, a guy who needed to post more than once a day. How To Congratulate In Birthdays

Page 12 Caicedo talking about YES WE CAN

officially launched today in Santiago, not in Cali, My body is a cell ...
Caicedo's autobiography. It is rare but logical that I was so present and my turn to present and give interviews but hey, Andrew is ...

I went to radios and talked to journalists and I feel that goal is being achieved:
Caicedo to contemporary, Caicedo and q there is an author (no longer a secret)
and is now part of the Latin American literary map.

posting a chat with Alejandra Zuniga q The
Tercera.com touches on themes and clarifies things for AC
and book

Alberto Fuguet:
"I wanted to prove that a young writer , rock and movie buff can also be an author Universal Remote

of magical realism, the figure of the Colombian Andres Caicedo, who committed suicide at age 25, is recovered by the Chilean who launched his autobiography My Body is a cell .

Alejandra Zúñiga C.

seems an invention but is not. A young artist, lucid, eccentric, crazy and suicidal. Long hair and big glasses, surprised to learn that Andres Caicedo is not a character, especially when the presentation outside of her native Colombia makes the Chilean Alberto Fuguet, a writer who made youth experiences, urban and cinéphiles, some important his work.

My Body is a Cell (Editorial Norma) is the title of the book which retrieves Fuguet Caicedo figure through his letters, film reviews and multiple writings, the author developed through its 25 years of life almost compulsively. An early writer, hyperkinetic and introverted, that as tragic hero of romance ended his life few hours after editing the book Que Viva la Musica! , ingesting 60 tablets of Seconal.

"You're looking for heroes, writers not only in the book you like but you feel a connection, people feel it plays a similar subjects who think the same, in the bottom one is looking for friends, characters that look like friends you have in real life, "said Fuguet to LaTercera.com.

The writer became acquainted with the family of Caicedo as a fan either, ended up clicking the private universe of the author who met by chance in a library of Lima, when he approached attracted title of the film Eye, a book that met the film reviews made by the Colombian writer for a newspaper in Cali and its own magazine. However, Fuguet found it more than just a "friend", and found the "older brother McOndo, this anthology of young writers published by the author of Please Rewind and Sergio Gómez in 1996 and raised defiantly against magical realism, proposing a vision of a global and hyper territory where young people and their customs increasingly influenced by American culture are the protagonists.

"I had always attracted attention in America America does not have an equivalent to some European or American authors cities, the closest was Vargas Llosa and Manuel Puig but there was no Andrés Caicedo, as he felt someone was missing and then I realized that there but was hidden and also dead, " says, adding that "one of the topics that caught my attention is that it was Colombian, I believe that if it were from another country I would not dare to spend so much time on it, because it is fascinating that the same country that invented magical realism and I can not believe that the texts that appear in this book done while the movement was assembled. For example, I read One Hundred Years Soledad, which at that time was a new book, and despite enjoying not contaminated, I had a world so urban, so personal and so interested in the future, not dyed it. "MAKING OFF

Fuguet's intention with this book, which launches this Sunday at 19 pm at the Book Fair of Santiago, was clear: to do justice to a writer needed for the literary history of the continent, known in Latin America but true worship in Colombia, where "because bigotry in schools recite their letters and stories, gravestone was stolen from his grave, the girls walk around with T-shirts with his face and make signatures for a park in Cali you put your name" says.

A real rock star. With this in mind, the writer began his work of collecting the material with friends and family, but before long he realized that both the biography and the correspondence did not correspond to a character absent for the vast majority of readers, so the project became an autobiography told by himself through his writings.

"All I had very conflicting stories and I realized they were talking over their experiences with him on the same Caicedo, who had told me stories very intense friendship with him, drugs, love, and it was impossible this type could have written both a life of dizzying, so easy to read I realized that if you edited, could transform many of his letters in texts, in a story. He wanted to prove that a young writer, rock musician, film buff and a drug addict can also be an author for all ages, the goal was to cut his hair, play with it, and I think they did, "he says.

However, in the supicacias how much assembly was involved in the conduct of the book, defended his work Fuguet clarifying that "never altered, did not lie, all you wrote is the dedication in which he summarized his feelings and literal phrases, and likewise had letters in which I saw he was going around the bush, very nice letter in which he spoke of both the time and who owed him money, then I manipulate the order but the dates are all real, and there is also time I realized that he was more and more to the bottom "he says. Subject: How this happened

Michael --

I'm about to head to Grant Park to talk to everyone gathered there, but I wanted to write to you first.

We just made history.

And I don't want you to forget how we did it.

You made history every single day during this campaign -- every day you knocked on doors, made a donation, or talked to your family, friends, and neighbors about why you believe it's time for change.

I want to thank all of you who gave your time, talent, and passion to this campaign.

We have a lot of work to do to get our country back on track, and I'll be in touch soon
about what comes next.

But I want to be very clear about one thing...

All of this happened because of you.

Thank you,

Barack
