here on Caicedo:
The film and life
By Héctor Soto
If the compulsive passion for film involves some level of disagreement with the world Andres Caicedo then should be raised to the altars of the American cinephile as a saint and martyr. Many of the background to promote their causes are in the book just published Alberto Fuguet ( My body is a cell , Standard Edition, Santiago, 2008) from the wealth of material-diaries, writings and letters, an impressive amount Caicedo left behind to take his own life on March 4, 1977. Fuguet, who did a remarkable job in terms of insight, not said a word to those texts and simply arrange them in a sequence that describes the gradual descent into hell of the young Colombian.
Born in Cali in 1951, decided not to studying after school, in part because there were many projects that he felt called to do and partly because he sensed that his time was limited. Caicedo had much of a child prodigy, and reached to touch the sky with their hands when they encouraged a cinema club and wrote, with a determined sense of urgency and agony, film criticism between 19 and 25 years who had to die.

The problem is that everything else in his life was traumatic. Never got along well with his father and developed a relationship of great dependency on the mother. Wanted to write scripts for Hollywood not knowing English or have more contact and made a trip to the Together which turned predictably defeated. Stuttered and this factor, which hurt at school and dreams of cultural animator, surely pushed him into the world of drugs. Nor was given the right things at the sentimental, Caicedo was feeling increasingly cornered and accelerate their preferred outcome with 60 tablets of Seconal the same day he received the first copy of a novel he had written.
Read today's criticism Caicedo-Standard published in the late 90's the book Ojo al cine, which includes much of its production-is a fascinating experience. Maybe he never was a paradigm of rigor, but he wrote unforgettable pages about movies so emotionally devastated, as Vertigo, Hitchcock, as Lilith by Robert Rossen and Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid of Peckinpah, among others. If anything, they seem the most hardened moviegoers to the stewards of Stalinism and moralists have associated with focal screen or ideological smuggling is rampant corruption that tend to overestimate the impact of movies they watch. As well, but also wrong. To Caicedo critic should above all be able to remove by means of reason often deceptive magic of images of bad cinema. In the end, because I thought it might be toxic. Those fears were very of its time, when the concept of alienation contours acquired slightly less than demonic. Today such paranoia has fallen. But beauty is still the idea that a movie you can save or condemn.
A Caicedo film gave many of the brightest moments of his life. His problem was what came after the screening. This film does that beat.
